Collin Sexton is clearly the Cleveland Cavaliers’ go-to guy now.
Collin Sexton is one of the most promising young players on the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it’s evident that he’s such a talented bucket-getter.
The 2018 eighth overall selection out of Alabama really proved that night-to-night in his second season, even more so.
After a nice first year in that regard, Sexton led Cleveland in scoring with 20.8 points per game in 2019-20. Plus, the 21-year-old was on quite a tear leading into the past NBA season’s novel coronavirus-induced hiatus and ultimately the end of that season for Cleveland, too.
Sexton had 23.6 points per game in his last 32 games of year 2 on 49.2 percent shooting and looking at year 3 and beyond, one thing seems pretty certain when it comes to his outlook with the Cavs.
Sexton should be the Cavaliers’ primary option for the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, we’ll hit on three reasons that should be the case for the Cavs.
The first reason is that as it looks right now, there’s no competition.
#1: Sexton’s solidified himself in that way for the Cavs
To simply put it, there just aren’t any players on the Cavs who are competing with him for that spot based on what we have seen so far.
Kevin Love did not turn back into the dominating 26.1-point, 12.5-rebound player he once was with the Minnesota Timberwolves once Kyrie Irving and LeBron James were no longer with Cleveland and he had the team to himself.
Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr., Cleveland first-round picks from last year, are still raw talents that have not shown enough in their game to show they’re the better options.
From there, the 2020 NBA Draft is right around the corner but this draft isn’t as loaded as it was last year at the top, and we sit with the fifth pick.
The second reason Sexton looks to be Cleveland’s primary option for the foreseeable future is how the Cavs can rely on him in that way game-to-game.
