Cavs’ Kevin Porter Jr. is ‘fine,’ tweets thanks for support

Kevin Porter Jr. is all good, Cleveland Cavaliers fans.

Kevin Porter Jr. is one of the most promising young players on the Cleveland Cavaliers, and that’s evident. In his rookie campaign, he had 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.9 steals per game, and looking onward, his role should steadily increase.

Next season, realistically as a key bench scorer and playmaker, he truly should take the next step.

It was just very concerning for his well-being to have seen him post on Instagram on Friday something that couldn’t have been taken lightly.

Porter’s post, which has since been taken down, as has since Instagram, with three emojis following which we won’t hit on much, said this, as h/t Cavaliers Nation’s Justin Benjamin:

"“You ever wish to see the end of your time?”"

Fortunately, Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor reported pretty shortly thereafter that KPJ is essentially all good, which is a relief. That’s to say the least, for the 20-year-old and countless others.

Here was more from Fedor.

"“We talked to him and he is fine,” a source said. “He understands what a cryptic post like that does on social media. He will learn from it and be more aware in the future.”"

This provided clarity regarding the situation with KPJ as well, from Fedor again.

"“His troubling message led to numerous members of the organization reaching out, including general manager Koby Altman, head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and assistant coach Lindsay Gottlieb, among others. Following those conversations, Porter immediately removed the post. It also appears he completely deleted his Instagram account.”‘Definitely worried everyone, but have talked to him and he’s OK,’ another source said.'”"

That news from Fedor involving the Cleveland Cavaliers reaching out to Porter is good to hear, and hopefully going forward, KPJ knows that he clearly has a support system around him that is always willing to listen.

I’m sure Kevin Love, who has had well-documented mental health struggles, and has helped countless people in that realm, is a player that can be a resource for Porter if needed as well.

Porter seems to be in a good place, though, which is a relief for the young Cavs guard.

Granted, Porter seemed to squash this somewhat in a recent tweet, too, but I just hope he’s all good mentally.

Porter, whose father, Kevin Porter Sr., passed away via shooting when he was only four years old, and is clearly such a huge inspiration for him, as demonstrated in a prior interview with Bleacher Report, is such a resilient individual.

KPJ again, has such a bright future ahead of him, and it’s just terrific to hear that he’s doing just fine, according to that Fedor report. And that tweet was reassuring.

It’s no secret, though, that Porter, which what he’s been through, is as tough as it gets. But after that post he sent out earlier on Friday, it’s comforting to know that KPJ seems to be in a good place.

Him tweeting out his thanks for the support was great to see as well.
