Potential Cleveland Cavaliers second-round target #2: Malachi Flynn

Yes I know, another guard. Malachi Flynn was a player who I discussed in my last article, looking at two Matthew Dellavedova replacements if the Cavaliers do not eventually re-sign him. To look at Flynn’s game more in-depth, you can check the article out.

To summarize, Flynn, who had 17.6 points, 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game in 2019-20 for San Diego State, is a 6-foot-1 guard who excels in the pick-and-roll and has a smooth jumper. And those are two things that the top point guards in the league have.

As a backup for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Flynn could help to improve the pace on the bench alongside, potentially, Porter Jr., Dylan Windler, Larry Nance Jr. and Tristan Thompson, if he is re-signed.

This particular second unit can be great for the Cavaliers, seeing as they’d have a nice assortment of shooting, slashing and defense capabilities. A backcourt pairing of Flynn and Porter, especially, could be very effective for stretches.

Flynn also isn’t a slouch defensively and gives great effort on every play. He is someone who is slowly creeping up draft boards and should fit well on the Cavaliers, if he were essentially available in a second-round pick purchase scenario in the 2020 NBA Draft.
