Cavs: What Collin Sexton ‘looking monstrous’ means for him in year 3
By Dan Gilinsky
Collin Sexton is clearly one of the most promising players on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
During this now-past season, then-second-year guard Collin Sexton made significant strides. He picked up where he left off his rookie campaign, and led the Cleveland Cavaliers in scoring at 20.8 points per game.
That was on a much better true shooting rate in comparison to his overall rookie year, at 56.0 percent as well. In turn, with the arrival of Darius Garland via the 2019 draft, Sexton leaned into a 2 guard role, and from my perspective, should be Cleveland’s primary offensive option going forward.
Sexton in 2019-20 again proved to be a heck of a three-point shooter off-the-catch, in particular, and in totality in year 2, hit 38.0 percent of his triple attempts. Along with that, in his last 32 games active leading into the novel coronavirus-induced hiatus and ultimately the closing of Cleveland’s season, Sexton hit 44.4 percent of his then-4.8 deep attempts per contest.
In terms of off-the-bounce, Sexton’s seemingly newfound ability to change speeds paid dividends for him as a pull-up threat in the mid-range area, too, and enabled him to get plenty of space often. That said, during last season, Sexton coming into the campaign stronger and visibly more stout also paid off for him.
Additionally, though, it appears that Collin’s taken that a step further, per a recent report from Spencer Davies of Basketballnews.com. Davies stressed how a source of his said how Sexton, is “looking monstrous” and “huge” from working on his frame, and I’d imagine that’s something that will stand out in upcoming Cavs in-market bubble team workouts to begin on Wednesday.
So how could that work on his frame again further aid Sexton for year 3?
Here, we’ll take a look at how that bigger frame could further aid Sexton for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
First, we’ll hit on the offensive end.
