2 goals for suggested FA target Josh Jackson if he ends up with Cavs
By Dan Gilinsky
Goal #2 for Jackson if he’s signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers: Be impact wing defender, average 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per-36 minutes
For the second goal I’d have for Josh Jackson if he were to be signed by Cleveland, that’d be to establish himself as an impact wing defender, which is something the Cavaliers definitely are in need of.
Jackson has enough lateral quickness to deter drivers/pull-up threats pretty competently, and he does seem to have good team defensive awareness. That comes into play by getting his share of steals/deflections and even blocks.
The 6-foot-8 Jackson establishing himself as an impact defender for the Wine and Gold on the wing would pay dividends. And considering his career clip has been 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per-36 minutes, I’d like to see him have 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per-36 next season if he were to be signed by Cleveland.
That’d indicate that Jackson is putting his team defensive instincts to use for the Cleveland Cavaliers, which would be meaningful as the squad tries to further progress in their path to winning ways.
Lastly, looking at the 2020 NBA Draft, I’d imagine USC big Onyeka Okongwu could end up being a the Cleveland Cavaliers’ selection, which I’d be more than fine with. Albeit I’d also be if Cleveland selected a wing such as Auburn’s Isaac Okoro, but if they don’t go wing, and perhaps went with a guard such as Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton, for instance, a free agent pickup of Jackson would make plenty of sense.
Jackson could be a quality young piece for the Wine and Gold and seems to be in a good place off the floor, and to me, if the Cavs ended up signing him in upcoming free agency, he could end up being a great bargain.
Plus, potentially, Jackson could be a solid piece for years to come if it’d work out from there.
