Deni Avdija Cleveland Cavaliers goal #2: Become a better isolation scorer

If Avdija ends up in Cleveland, there is no doubt that he would be able to help the team in some facet as an off-ball scorer. Deni is an intelligent player when it comes to off-ball situations.

He always seems to be in the right place when his teammates need him, or he always seems to cut to the basket at just the right moment as to free himself for an uncontested layup. If Avdija ends up a Cavalier via the 2020 NBA Draft, he will definitely add movement as an off-ball player.

But for him to truly be a transcendent player in the NBA, Avdija must become a better isolation scorer when it comes to halfcourt situations. Adding that skill would open up a whole new world for Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff.

For this to happen, Avdija would need to become a better ball handler, he would need to add moves to his game that would allow him to create his own space, and again, he must become a better jump shooter.

The best small forwards in the NBA have at least some sort of isolation ability in their arsenal that allows them to create their own shots in big-time moments.

And if Avdija can improve his game during his rookie season to make himself a better isolation scorer, it would raise his ceiling from potential role player to potential franchise centerpiece.

Now, this is not to say that Avdija has to be an elite isolation scorer in his first year, but that it would be encouraging to see signs of it in his early play.

If Avdija can become a better isolation, on-ball player, he still would be able to fit nicely into basically any lineup the Cavaliers deployed. Many Cavs players such as Sexton, Garland, Love and Kevin Porter Jr. are players who can be effective in both on and off-ball situations.

So if Avdija were to become very effective making plays for himself, he would still be able to fit in almost every lineup that J.B. Bickerstaff chooses.

There are many reasons as to why the Cleveland Cavaliers may be interested in selecting Deni Avdija in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is a wing player which would fill a position of need on the team, and he is only 19 years old, meaning he is on the same timeline of progression as the Cavs young core.

If Avdija is still available when the Cavaliers are on the clock, I would not be shocked to see him added to the Wine and Gold.
