3 potential lineups Cavs could use involving 2020 NBA Draft prospect Deni Avdija
By Mason Cole
Deni Avdija potential Cleveland Cavaliers lineup #2: Garland-Sexton-Porter Jr.-Avdija-Larry Nance Jr.
This is a lineup that the Cavaliers could deploy in which Avdija would be a great fit. During his time with Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Avdija and his team would often find scoring opportunities through a fast-break-styled offense.
Avdija was able to thrive in these fastbreak opportunities, and if the Cavaliers were to draft Deni, it would make sense that they would implement a quicker pace to their offensive play style. The players listed in this lineup would make a lot of sense playing next to Avdija due to their ability to thrive in a fast-paced offense throughout games.
Darius Garland and Sexton are two small, but fast point guards, both of whom would be able to get up and down the court quickly. Porter Jr., who had an encouraging 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game as a rookie bench contributor, is a versatile player whose speed and athleticism would give him the ability to thrive in a fast-paced offense.
And out of all the big men on the Cavaliers roster, Larry Nance Jr. would likely fit the best in this specific offensive play style.
If the Cavaliers were to implement this lineup as well as a fast paced system, they would be tailoring their offense around their young draft pick. This could help Avdija in his transition from the EuroLeague to the NBA.
It could also raise the overall offensive ceiling of the Cavaliers. Fast-paced offenses are becoming more and more common in the NBA simply due to their ability to create more scoring opportunities over the course of a regular basketball game.
This lineup would likely be something that J.B. Bickerstaff would implement often if Avdija is drafted by the Cavaliers. It is an offense that the young player would fit well in, it could help ease his transition into the NBA, and it could potentially raise the Cavaliers offensive ceiling.
I would not be shocked at all if this were something that Cavs fans would see frequently if Deni Avdija joins the squad during their next season.
