Goal #1 for Wiseman: Eventually earn the starting center role for the Cleveland Cavaliers

If the Cavs select Wiseman in the 2020 NBA Draft, Drummond’s days are imminently numbered, one would imagine. The Cavs probably wouldn’t pay him with Wiseman on the roster following next season.

Drummond could be very valuable as an expiring contract for a team wanting to clear money for the summer of Giannis Antetokounmpo, too. The likely scenario is Drummond will probably start the season in the starting lineup while he is kind of a mentor to Wiseman.

The first goal for Wiseman after the first month of the season is to prove he belongs and gets put into the starting lineup.

The best-case scenario is Wiseman plays really well the first month in the season when he does get rotational minutes, and eventually earns the starting role and shows he’s going to be a key part of the team’s young core. That’s while he shows potential and hope that he can be the Cavs’ anchor on defense for a long time, in addition.

That would be the best-case scenario for the Cavs, once again.

If Wiseman plays really well in the first month or two, he would earn the trust of the organization and the organization would feel more comfortable about trading Drummond earlier then usual, if a feasible offer arises by the 2021 trade deadline.

It’s clear that Wiseman would eventually be the starter post-deadline, but it would certainly make the Cavs feel better about him and his development if he becomes the starter after the first month or two, because he’s playing really well, rather than simply due to him being drafted high/very being young.
