Potential Cleveland Cavaliers lineup #3 involving Okoro: Garland-Porter Jr.-Dylan Windler-Okoro-Love/Larry Nance Jr.
The last lineup that we will look at in this article is an experimental one. This is a lineup that head coach J.B. Bickerstaff could run for short bursts and depending on its success, it could be one that the Cavs could look to run more and more as the season goes on.
This lineup features all three picks made by the Cavs in this past year’s draft. The intriguing part of this lineup is Dylan Windler. Windler is a marksman and his amazing shooting would help to free up a lot for the offense. Windler has yet to make his NBA debut due to a lower leg injury but, it is progressing well and is “feeling good,” per a report from Fedor.
Windler lit it up during his senior year at Belmont, posting 21.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game and shooting an efficient 54.0 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point land. He was taken with the 26th pick in the 2019 draft and could be a staple of the Cavs’ offense for years to come.
The 2019 NBA Draft trio have already established an amazing chemistry between them. On multiple occasions, Garland, Windler and KPJ have all talked about each other with high praise and have stated just how much the trio has grown with each other over the year.
The trio has been seen hanging out on a number of occasions, including golfing together at Top Golf and fishing with each other in a prior Instagram story from Windler. The trio also loves to game together and you could see them playing games such as Fortnite on Windler’s Twitch live streams.
The trio having great chemistry off the court should help to improve their on-court chemistry, seeing as the trio has yet to play NBA basketball with each of them on the court. Looking at the rest of the lineup, Okoro playing the power forward position at times seems likely in the NBA.
One of Okoro’s selling points from his 2020 NBA Draft analysis is his overall strength and low center of gravity. These two factors should help him to hold his own against power forwards, especially those who are near or equal in size to him.
Looking at the center position of this lineup, the Cleveland Cavaliers could choose between Love and Nance, depending on matchups. When going against defensive-minded centers, the Cavaliers could look to run this lineup with Love at center, seeing as his shooting ability would pull the center out of the paint, allowing Garland, KPJ and Okoro at times to isolate and finish near the rim.
If the center were to cheat over, then they could look to hit Love for a high-percentage shot. Lastly, on a fastbreak, this lineup would find great success as they could have Windler and Love hit the corners, and either KPJ or Okoro slash in for a lob from Garland.
When going against offensive-minded centers, the Cavaliers could look to run this lineup with Nance at center.
Nance’s athleticism could help to limit the defensive deficiencies that his height brings and Nance is a serviceable shooter, so he would still be solid as an off-ball shooter.
