Goal #1 for Edwards if he’s drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers: Be a top-three scorer next season on the team

Though the shooting percentages may not reflect it, Edwards showed last season he can score the ball from all over the floor at times. What hampered him at Georgia is likely that he was the go-to guy and teams game planned to stop him. If he comes to the Cavaliers, he’ll be surrounded by Collin Sexton, Kevin Porter Jr., and Kevin Love, who all will get more attention from defenses from Edwards, at least at first.

Not being the focal point of a team’s defensive strategy would allow Edwards to perform with less pressure, which could result in those shooting numbers improving.

Edwards showed last season he can get to the hoop and finish through contact. Though he did not shoot well from long range at Georgia, I’d bet his shooting from beyond the arc would improve next season, and that would make Edwards a truly versatile threat on offense.

Another factor that could likely help Edwards be a more efficient scorer is his ability to read the court and make the right play. Though he only averaged 2.8 assists last year, he does tend to see the floor well and more times than not makes the right play.

Overall, Edwards has the potential to be one of the top scorers of this draft class, and would definitely be a player that could take some pressure off Sexton to score as Edwards appears to have a natural scoring ability already.

The second goal for Edwards if he’s drafted by Cleveland relates to the team defensive aspect.
