Cleveland Cavaliers wing Cedi Osman is such a model teammate.

I’ll be the first to admit that Cedi Osman has his flaws when it comes to still currently being the Cleveland Cavaliers starting 3. I was wrong before 2019-20 believing Osman should be the Cavs starting 3 for coming years, along with that.

Osman has mightily struggled the last two seasons in primary coverage against opposing small forwards due to a lack of lateral quickness, being limited in deterring drivers and him still having some problems getting through off-ball screens to contest.

On the offensive end, Osman did hit the highest clip as a three-point shooter of his three-year Cavs tenure to this point in 2019-20 at 38.3 percent, which was good to see.

He clearly is not a player that’s going to be a key on-ball threat often going forward, though, due to a fairly limited ability to get separation, and in too many stretches this now-past season, Osman seemingly disappeared offensively.

That said, Osman is still a player that I believe will be a nice rotational wing to have for the Cavs going forward as a catch-and-shoot player, is a willing ball-mover, instinctive cutter and he does do well in the open floor.

In any case, I still do believe Osman’s a solid piece for Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and company to have at their disposal, and in regards to another positive in relation to Osman, it is evident that he’s a model teammate. Osman seems like a great dude in general, and that’s probably why so many Cavs fans have been drawn to him.

A recent Cleveland Cavaliers tweet shows that about Osman, too.

Osman is such a jolly guy, and that sort of thing I would imagine rubs off on his teammates to some extent. When Kevin Love has hit his occasional touchdown passes to Osman, you see the pumped-up reaction he gives after playing off that, especially when an opponent calls a timeout after to try to stop momentum.

Along those lines of how Osman seems to affect the squad to an extent, a Cavs tweet on Thursday shows how Cedi always seems to uplift the team’s mood. On their social media channels this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers are highlighting Osman as their featured player. Swinging back, here was that tweet about Osman.

When Osman has his opportunities out on the break, in particular, as a scorer or playmaker, it seems to really get the Cavs squad to going for spurts. Whether it’s in clips of practice dancing, pregame, handshake exchanges with teammates such as Darius Garland, such as is shown in that above Cavs tweet, or in interviews, Osman always seems to uplift the team’s mood.

That Cavaliers mixtape above clearly puts the spotlight on that to me in relation to Osman.

So again, while it is evident that Osman probably shouldn’t be in a starting 3 role much longer for the Wine and Gold, he should be a solid rotational piece to have in coming years.

He could feasibly give the likes of say, potential starting wing replacement in Auburn’s Isaac Okoro, a breather and/or play with him in some lineups, or at least appear at the 3 for stretches with Dylan Windler at the 2, provided Windler is healthy. Another potential starting 3 replacement for Osman could be previously suggested free agent target Josh Jackson, too, as KJG’s Mason Cole alluded to.

Moreover, that Cavs tweet/mixtape sent out on Thursday shows how Osman always uplifts the team’s mood, and as a hard worker/model teammate, Osman should be a nice rotational piece to have in coming years.

Cedi I’m sure is a notable presence from a locker room/team psyche standpoint that gets the team going, which matters as the Cavs try to keep moving in the right direction and return to relevance in the Eastern Conference.
