A look at Dellavedova’s overall grade for 2019-2020

Dellavedova’s performance overall for the 2019-2020 NBA season has been fairly average to this point. With his limited playing time, though, it should not be a surprise that his numbers have declined slightly.

At any rate, Delly has gotten some extended minutes after the All-Star break due to injuries to other players like Dante Exum, the previously mentioned Garland, and Kevin Porter Jr., who had missed nearly four games leading into the hiatus due to a concussion.

With those extra minutes, Delly had started to slightly look like his old self again such as when he put up a double-double against the San Antonio Spurs with 14 points and 11 assists, or the aforementioned Nuggets game with his career high total of 14 assists.

Additionally, even if he is not contributing directly himself, his veteran experience in the NBA is ideal for young guards like Sexton, and that could a key reason why the Cleveland Cavaliers potentially re-sign Dellavedova, who is expiring, whenever the upcoming free agency period ultimately is.

That’s in the case of there being a team-friendly deal, and I wouldn’t imagine Delly would be getting nearly the $9.6 million he was originally set to make this season pre-season suspension. Moreover, if Delly can pass on his knowledge of the game to the young guards of Cleveland, then that is a win in my book.

Cleveland still can utilize one of their three remaining champions from the 2016 team to their advantage. While he might not be the player he used to be, Dellavedova still has something to offer this team, and he still deserves a spot on this roster.

Delly’s overall grade for 2019-2020 thus far: C+

His play thus far this season again, more so in regards to his shooting issues and not nearly being the same on-ball defensively, perhaps from being a bit out of rhythm due to less playing time, has warranted a C+ overall grade.

Even if he only plays limited minutes, though, I believe Delly is a beneficial player to the Cavaliers, and I hope to see him wearing Wine and Gold in the near future.
