The top three prospects for the Cavaliers in the 2021 NBA Draft
By Corey Casey
#3: Jonathan Kuminga, Forward – Uncommitted
Jonathan Kuminga is a junior, but he is expected to reclassify to the 2020 high school class, which would likely put him in the 2021 NBA Draft. Kuminga stands at 6-foot-8 and weighs 210 pounds, and has “a near 7-foot wingspan,” per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
Kuminga has a really big frame and is an explosive athlete. Offensively, he’s shown he’s really good as a slasher and as a finisher at the rim. With his athleticism and ability to run the floor he’s a nightmare in transition. He’s shown the ability to create his own shot and is a pretty good passer for someone his size as well.
Last summer he was on the All-EYBL underclassman team where he averaged just shy of 21 points per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field, to go with 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per outing, per D1 Circuit.

He has shown he can make three-point looks and is improving, but consistency is the biggest thing for him. When you look at his shot form it’s not broken and it’s gotten better, which makes me believe he can improve a lot with his outside shot. If he does, look out, because he’ll be seemingly impossible to guard in the near future.
Defensively, Kuminga has a chance to be dominant. He is big, has plus length and elite athleticism, and he’s versatile where he can feasibly guard 1-4, and he blocks shots and comes up with a lot of steals often based on his instincts.
Defensively, he reminds me a lot of Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic. Isaac is a problem for opponents on the defensive end and that’s where Kuminga could get defensively, except Kuminga has a lot more ability on the offensive end.
