Cavaliers: Grading Collin Sexton’s 2019-20 season thus far
By Dan Gilinsky
Looking at Sexton’s overall play
Sexton again has shown considerable growth in terms of him being Cleveland’s really top three-level scorer virtually this whole season.
Sexton was even showcasing higher level of play and demonstrating how we probably don’t know his ceiling just yet, as evidenced by the Young Bull putting up 25.5 points per game post-All-Star break leading into the season’s suspension.
The pressure Sexton puts on opposing defenses, coupled with his growth as a cutter and continued effiency as a catch-and-shoot player lead to me believe he should undoubtedly be Cleveland’s primary option next season. His better passing willingness and improved feel leading into the hiatus was also reason to be optimistic about the 21-year-old.
Now, defensively especially off-ball and still as a passer in terms of making a bit better decisions in settled offense, Sexton needs to show better awareness moving forward.
Anyhow, thus far in his second season, I’ve been mostly pleased in the general sense with Collin’s play, but again, there’s still some growth to be had, which is understandable, as he’s so young.
Sexton’s overall grade thus far in 2019-20: B+
Overall, however, Sexton’s arrow is pointing way up and perhaps we’ll end up seeing more from Sexton in 2019-20.
If not, though, I’m still as bullish as one can be in regards to Sexton’s near future outlook, and even more so when you consider how Sexton is as hard of a worker as it gets.
