Looking at Osman’s overall play

I’m not going to completely chew out Osman here, but it is evident that the dude isn’t the long-term answer at the starting 3 for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Before this season, I believed that Cedi should fill that role in coming years, but I was obviously off the mark in making that proclamation. You can rightfully criticize me for having that line of thinking, but it is what it is.

Projecting forward, it’s hard to justify Osman manning the starting 3 for the Cavs following the 2019-20 season on most occasions.

I’d again look for Cleveland to upgrade that position in coming years, and when looking at the defensive ceiling, in particular, Auburn’s Isaac Okoro would figure to be an upgrade in the near future. Okoro is an explosive athlete that has real potential to be a high-level secondary playmaker, too.

Anyway, factoring in the grades for Osman on the offensive and defensive end thus far in the 2019-20 season, you can see his overall grade below.

Osman’s overall grade thus far in 2019-20: C

I like Cedi as a player for coming years feasibly as a productive bench piece and good catch-and-shoot contributor that could be more competent with potentially better defensive pieces around him and especially against bench wings.

Osman, who signed a four-year, $30.8 million extension at the beginning of this season, is a nice depth piece for the Wine and Gold to have in the near future.

He’s just clearly not a viable answer at the starting 3 position, which is so crucial in today’s league. I’d say a C grade seems fair for Osman’s play thus far this season.
