#1: Collin Sexton

Collin Sexton’s contract, which is again his rookie deal, is the best contract on the Cavs currently.

Sexton is at the moment set to make roughly $4.8 million in 2019-20, and just shy of $5.0 million next season. From there, Sexton’s contract will again have a team option for 2021-22, which as a result, he’d be set to make $6.3 million from, and following then, he’ll be set to be a restricted free agent in the offseason of 2022.

I’d expect the Cleveland Cavaliers at some point to pay Sexton a sizable chunk of change in coming years, because this season, he’s put up 20.8 points per game and virtually led Cleveland in scoring the whole way, even with Love mostly healthy.

Furthermore, post-All-Star break, though Darius Garland missing five games leading into the season’s suspension did play into it, Sexton did also average 25.5 points and 4.2 assists per game, as noted by NBA.com, and Collin was getting a bunch of chances on the break.

In addition, I’d imagine that under the direction of J.B. Bickerstaff and others, such as assistant coach Lindsay Gottlieb, that Sexton will continue to get better as a passer in terms of finding spray-outs and dump-offs, too, and Sexton has made strides as an on-ball defender this season as well.

Again, though, with the growth Sexton has shown this season, and with him improving as a finisher, pick-and-roll ball-handler, and Sexton hitting 38.0 percent of his triples and showing better feel as a cutter, Sexton’s contract has to be the best on Cleveland’s roster at this juncture.

I would expect Sexton to be getting a significant contract extension from the Cavs at some point down the road if he keeps on this upward trajectory, however, and I still believe Cleveland should be able to figure this out in terms of coming drafts to support likes of Sexton, Garland and KPJ in coming years.
