Sexton drops 40 for the first time in his best game of 2019-20 thus far vs. Boston

A week before the NBA season was put on hold, Sexton had the best game of his young career. Granted, the Boston Celtics were down three starters (Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown), but that does not take away from Sexton’s performance.

The Cavaliers were also operating at less than 100 percent, as they were missing Garland, Andre Drummond and big man Tristan Thompson, and Kevin Porter Jr. played less than ten minutes due to a concussion.

After a quiet first quarter (four points, one assist), Sexton scored 14 of the Cavaliers’ 25 second quarter points, as shown by ESPN. The Young Bull followed up a solid second quarter with an equally productive third quarter, as he scored 12 points (on six-of-nine from the floor) and dished out a pair of assists.

Sexton would go on to play all 12 minutes of the fourth quarter and scored 11 points to reach a career-high 41 for the game to go along with six assists in a close 112-106 loss.

Even against an undermanned Celtics squad, Boston head coach Brad Stevens still had game planned to slow down Sexton, yet Collin did not force many wild shots, finishing the game a very efficient 17-30 (56.7 percent) from the floor. Sexton also became just the third player in Cavaliers history to score at least 40 points before turning 22, joining only LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, according to the team.

This performance for Sexton was the best game in a stretch where Sexton was playing the best basketball of his young career, as you can see below. Hopefully, we have not seen the last of the Young Bull this season.

The third performance that comes to mind in terms of the three best for Sexton thus far this season was another outing against the Knicks.
