Collin Sexton

The Cavs experimented with Collin Sexton at the point guard position last season and lets just say when he switched to the shooting guard position this year he really blossomed.

Rookie Darius Garland is a decent playmaker, as evidenced by him averaging 3.9 assists per game with other playmakers, such as Cedi Osman, Kevin Love and Kevin Porter Jr. having plenty of action in that realm from as secondary standpoint, but Garland has his struggles. That’s where I look to LaMelo Ball as Cleveland’s potential primary playmaker of the future if he’s available and they select him in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Ball does have his flaws, most notably, shot selection and engagement on defense, as ESPN’s Mike Schmitz hit on, and likely needs to get stronger, but as Schmitz essentially detailed, Ball could be a big-time player in the NBA down the road, in regards to playmaking, in particular. That’s big for Sexton.

With Ball’s precise court vision, height and ability to push it on the break to take advantage of transition and secondary transition, the speedy Sexton would definitely benefit in a huge way with LaMelo running the point guard. Sexton has led the Cavaliers in scoring virtually all of this season with 20.8 points per game, according to NBA.com, leading into the NBA’s season suspension.

Anyhow, LaMelo would really help Collin remain an efficient and steady scorer for a long time in the NBA; Sexton has shot 47.2 percent this season, and 38.0 percent from three-point range as well.

Last but not least, the third Cav that comes to mind that would benefit the most from the Cavs’ potential selection of Ball in the 2020 NBA Draft is Cleveland’s best big man and likely, overall player.
