Kevin Porter Jr.

The Cavs player I believe fans would want to see the most in a potential NBA charity game is, without a doubt, Kevin Porter Jr.

More from King James Gospel

The 19-year-old guard/wing has shown so many flashes in his rookie season, even with him missing time in January due to a left knee sprain, and I hope he’s recovering from a concussion he suffered against Boston earlier this month.

Thus far as a rookie going into the NBA’s current season suspension in relation to COVID-19 concerns, Porter has averaged a solid 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.9 steals per outing, according to NBA.com.

Anyhow, while he’s had some rough patches, and still needs to clean up his turnover issue, the youngster has proven to be quite the talent, and has very high potential as a star on both ends of the floor with his outstanding handle, ability to get separation, unique athleticism and speed/strength for a perimeter player his age.

I’d expect him to be playing much more than 23.2 minutes per outing next season, and that seems like a near-guarantee under the direction of Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, one would think.

In a charity/pickup game, with KPJ’s combination of the previously mentioned handle, athleticism, ability to get steamy hot and with his rim-wrecking prowess with both hands, he’s somebody fans would be drooling over in a potential exhibition down the road.

He showed the full array in a thrilling comeback win for the Cavaliers on February 24 against the Miami Heat, of which our own Corey Casey hit on, and in that one, the youngster poured in a career-high 30 points. Again, in a charity game, KPJ would kill it and I betcha, would be quite the showman.

Now, I’ll admit, from the Cleveland Cavaliers’ perspective, Porter is a player that is far from a finished product.

Even so, though, in this sort of potential charity NBA game setting, he’d be so entertaining for NBA fans to see.

At any rate, as Miller essentially hit on, this charity game is not a certainty to happen down the road at this point, and is just a hypothetical scenario that Silver brought up as a possibility.

It would be quite an event for NBA fans, though, if the league’s current season can’t eventually be played out and the league wanted to do something as an alternative.
