Collin Sexton

I really can’t praise the 21-year-old Collin Sexton enough. I’m inherently biased, and I understand he has a ways to go in terms of off-ball awareness defensively, and is not a natural passer, but he’s made incredible strides in his second season.

Plus, the dude’s bulldog mentality on the floor is something that I’d imagine fans would love to see, even in a potential exhibition, as I’m sure there’d be plenty of stretches where players were fully engaged and when Sexton is rolling, which is often and has been even more lately, he’s especially fun to watch.

This year, the Young Bull has led the Cleveland Cavaliers virtually all season in scoring, and at this current league hiatus, he’s averaging 20.8 points per game. With Sexton’s ever-improving three-level scoring ability, his blazing speed in transition, where he’s making his presence felt against opposing defenses more and more, and with Sexton’s relentlessness, he’d be somebody I’m sure fans would enjoy seeing on the national stage.

Earlier this month, Sexton had a then-career-high 32 points versus the Utah Jazz in a Cavs’ loss and then followed that up with another career-high with 41 points right after on March 4 versus the Boston Celtics. Cleveland lost that one in narrow fashion, but Sexton again feasted, going 17-of-30 from the floor, and he became just the third Cavalier in team history to score 40 or more points before turning 22, joining only LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

Among his 2018 NBA Draft class, I know he doesn’t have the capability from way deep as a shot-maker that the Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young or Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic have, nor does he have their passing vision/ability, but the Young Bull is pretty darn consistent as a scorer and his 4.2 assists per game post-All-Star break show how he’s improving as a delivery man.

Moreover, in a potential NBA charity game, Sexton is a player that’d definitely make his presence felt, given his consistent growth, rare jets and his competitiveness. The Bull would be getting after it.

Lastly, the Cavs player I’d imagine fans would like to see the most in a potential NBA charity game down the road is a youngster that’s barely scratched the surface but looks like a star in the making.
