Saddiq Bey: 6-foot-8 wing/forward – Villanova

The 2020 NBA Draft has been noted thus far as one of the weaker drafts in terms of overall potential star talent, yet the draft pool does carry a few players such as Villanova sophomore wing Saddiq Bey, who projects to be a rock solid role player in the NBA.

More from King James Gospel

Bey is a 6-foot-8 wing/forward from Largo, Maryland that has the potential to become one of this draft’s better two-way, three-and-D players if he finds himself in the right situation and surrounded by the right roster and personnel.

He has drawn comparisons largely to Milwaukee Bucks All-Star wing Khris Middleton because of his size and ability to put the both put the ball on the floor as well as shoot at an efficient rate overall and elite clip from behind the arc.

Middleton is also seemingly a relatively fair and solid comparison because of their similar overall builds and bodies.

If Saddiq finds himself in the right situation like Khris found himself in Milwaukee, he very well can mold himself into a similar All-Star level, two-way talent.

In his sophomore season thus far, Bey is averaging 16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game, according to Sports Reference. He is doing this while shooting 50.0 percent from inside the arc, an impressive 45.1 percent from outside the arc (on 5.6 three-point attempts per outing), and 47.7 percent from the floor overall.

Bey has a clean stroke, and a quick release, which is especially attractive for the next level, too.

Plus, Bey has been doing all of this as an integral part of the presently 24-7 and 11th-ranked Villanova Wildcats that won the regular season for the Big East once again. Bey is also a pretty consistent mismatch given his 6-foot-8 body, height, and pretty strong frame at 216 pounds.

These advantages will likely yield him a capable path towards becoming a quality role player and two-way player in the NBA. Bey must continue to develop on the defensive end of the floor if he is able to reach his innate two-way potential, yet possesses a good frame and enough athleticism that should allow him to develop quickly in the NBA, regardless.

He fits excellently next to the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ young core and overall roster given his still developing ability to score in a variety of ways, particularly behind the arc. Bey projects to be a good to even great fit for pretty much any team that selects him come June, but his development can take massive strides playing next to the Cavaliers’ young guards and veteran big men, feasibly including Drummond if he’s around, to go with Larry Nance Jr.

If the Cleveland Cavaliers do indeed acquire a second first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Saddiq Bey (who turns 21 in April) should absolutely be someone the team heavily considers and can be a potentially very good piece of their overall young core and rebuild.

The second target if Cleveland does acquire a second first-rounder is a player we’ve touched on a bit, but still would make for a nice fit with the Cavs.
