Cavs: Three goals for Larry Nance Jr. for rest of 2019-20 season
Goal #2 for Nance for the rest of 2019-20: Average 3.0 assists per game
Cleveland needs all the help they can get right now, especially in terms of playmaking. According to NBA.com, the Cavaliers currently rank 25th overall in terms of assists per game.
Larry averaged 3.2 assists per game last year, and while Kevin Love only played in 22 games last season (mostly due to reported toe surgery) and Cleveland did not have Darius Garland, the team’s assist leader this year, in the rotation, Nance has been utilized more as a playmaker recently by Cleveland, as was often the case in 2018-19.
In his last 10 games, Nance has averaged 2.7 assists per outing, so a goal of him averaging 3.0 assists per game the rest of this year is definitely attainable.
Moreover, Nance is quickly becoming one of the most reliable players on the Cleveland Cavaliers, and by increasing his number of assists, he can contribute even more. I would like to see Nance become more active with his assists, especially with players such as Collin Sexton when he’s playing alongside the Young Bull.
Sexton is currently leading the Cavaliers in scoring with 19.7 points per game, and has been more of a catch-and-shoot player from three-point range as of late.
Factoring in that, having a big like Nance that can facilitate and get the ball to a scorer like Sexton when it’s the right play would be beneficial, and with Nance’s passing feel when kicking out to shooters and also making dishes to cutters, such as Kevin Porter Jr. and Cedi Osman, it should bode well for Cleveland. Nance does a nice job of making big-to-big feeds to the likes of Love and Tristan Thompson, too.
Anyway, playmaking is always a crucial component to any team’s success, and to have Nance become more involved in this aspect of the game would lead to considerable improvement for the Cavaliers as a whole.
Lastly, the other goal I have for Nance for the rest of this season relates to the intangibles.
