Post-All-Star break goal #1 for Sexton: Average 3.5 assists per game

I understand that John Beilein, who reportedly left as the team’s head coach on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, clearly wasn’t the right fit to lead the Cavs. So what’s the reason the Cavs reportedly re-assigned Beilein to a new, unspecified role in the organization on Wednesday, per a team press release?

I have no clue as far as an answer to that. I’ll admit, though, Sexton’s shown growth as a passer this season, especially lately, and I believe Beilein had some to do with that.

I would imagine Beilein, who has continuously preached making the extra pass this season, influenced Sexton in that regard. Sexton has averaged 4.2 assists per outing in his last 10 games, which is second on Cleveland to only Darius Garland’s 4.9 in that span, as shown by NBA.com.

I’d like to see Collin continue that upward playmaking trend with prior associate head coach J.B. Bickerstaff reportedly taking over as Cleveland’s head coach now, and I don’t see it being such an over-reach for Sexton to average 3.5 assists per outing the rest of 2019-20.

Plus, with more experience playing alongside Andre Drummond, who should also open up perimeter shooters more, such as Kevin Love and Cedi Osman, I don’t see this post-All-Star goal being unrealistic for Sexton.

The young guard is starting to make extra passes more consistently when that’s the right play, and as long as Sexton keeps doing that, it will help him get more driving lanes and Cleveland will be more effective offensively.

Shifting gears, the second post-All-Star break goal I have for Sexton is in relation to the defensive end, where he’s shown better awareness recently.
