Cleveland Cavaliers second-year guard Collin Sexton has proven he’s going to get buckets, but he’s still got a considerable ways to go in other areas of his game. We’ll get more into that here in regards to the three-post-All-Star break goals I have for him.

Collin Sexton has turned into a heck of a scorer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s continued to show that he’s continuously going to attack, as evidenced by him leading the Wine and Gold in scoring, with 19.8 points per game in 2019-20, as noted by NBA.com.

The youngster has done so on a fairly efficient 54.4 true shooting clip in Year 2, which is an increase from last season’s 52.0 percent true shooting rate.

Now it’s been a bit unfortunate that Sexton’s three-point shooting rate and hit rate are down from his rookie year, when he shot 40.2 percent (and this season is shooting 36.5 percent), but his shooting has gotten better in other areas, and his touch on floaters in the paint has gotten better.

That being said, Sexton needs to show more growth game-to-game in other areas for the Cavaliers. While the playmaking presence of Darius Garland and Kevin Love has likely played into Sexton’s assist rate decreasing from 15.4 percent to 13.7 percent this season, as documented by NBA.com, and Sexton is playing mostly the 2, there are still far too many times that Sexton’s tunnel vision is leading to him missing clearly more open teammates.

On the bright side, Sexton, who has averaged just 2.7 assists per game this year, has turned a corner a bit in that realm. Though it was against hardly a world-beater in the Atlanta Hawks, Sexton kept that better playmaking trend on Wednesday in Cleveland’s last game before the All-Star break, as the Young Bull had six assists to go with his 23 points, as shown by ESPN.

Moreover, reaching the first post-All-Star break goal I have for the Cavs’ Rising Stars Game representative would demonstrate that he’s ascending in his secondary playmaking role.
