Post-All-Star goal #3 for Love: Play in 24 of the last 28 games

The Cleveland Cavaliers have played 54 games thus far in the 2019-20 campaign, and Love has been active in 46 of them. Frankly, given the injury concerns with Love, I’ll take that number at this point going into the break.

Love was not active in Cleveland’s last game on Wednesday before the All-Star break due to reported right Achilles soreness, and it turned out that the Wine and Gold didn’t need his services, anyhow, as the other interior pieces dominated in a 127-105 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Plus, in most back-to-back situations this season, Beilein and the Cavs have been cautious in playing Love this year. With that being the case, I figured a third post-All-Star break goal for Love for the rest of the way is for him to appear in 24 of the last 28 games.

Cleveland has five more back-to-back scenarios in 2019-20, and I would imagine Love playing in the first back-to-back on February 21 and 22 seems reasonable, given him then playing last on February 9 and having the All-Star break.

Love hitting this goal would indicate that he’s been giving the Cavs all he has, realistically, in effort and being there for his teammates to close out the season strong.

I would think with the addition of Drummond, a guy that Love seemingly has a long-standing relationship, considering they are also represented by the same agent in Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, that Love will want to completely exhaust all measures to see how their fit is as a frontcourt tandem before the season ends.

Drummond is reportedly expected to pick up his $28.8 million player option for 2020-21, according to Sports Illustrated‘s Sam Amico, but I would think that his fit with Love has at least some to do with him potentially wanting to come back and/or maybe sign a new deal with Cleveland.

So, hopefully, Love can be active most of the rest of the way to see if that Drummond fit is a good one or not for perhaps next season/further. Love is objectively, prone to injuries, unfortunately, so we’ll see the rest of this season.
