Post-All-Star break goal #3 for Drummond: Emerge as a leader

From the way Cavs general manager Koby Altman, who has a long-standing relationship with Drummond, talked glowingly about Drummond as a player but also as a teammate and person last week, I’d like to see Dre emerge as a leader with Cleveland.

This Cavaliers team has the likes of Love, Tristan Thompson and Nance seemingly as leaders right now, but that very well may not be the case in regards to Love and Thompson much longer.

Thompson, who is on an expiring deal, is a prime sign-and-trade candidate after this season, according to Sports Illustrated‘s Sam Amico.

While Love could potentially be back next year and he has the same representation as Drummond, in Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, given previous reports/what’s transpired on the floor/bench this season involving Love and the Cavs, even with Drummond here, nobody would be shocked if Love was traded this offseason. The free agent pool is shaping up to be weak, too.

In Drummond’s case, though, it seems more likely that he’ll stick around; Amico also reported last week that Drummond is expected to pick up his $28.8 million player option for 2020-21.

Anyhow, with Drummond reportedly being a really active presence in his community in his Detroit days and with him seeming to be a terrific teammate, I’d like to see him emerge as a leader for the Cleveland Cavaliers the last few months of this season.

Altman and the Cavs are trying to build a winning culture, and a player and person the likes of Drummond, based on what Koby said, would only seem to help this organization become a winner.

Hopefully, Dre feels at home in Cleveland, too, because I have a feeling people will love him here in no time.
