Takeaway #3: Sexton bounces back in a huge way

Collin Sexton was able to bounce back from a rough game against the Knicks, exploding for 29 points against the Wizards on 10-of-15 shooting. When the Cavs got off to a scorching start to start the game, Sexton was at the center of it all, scoring eight points, as I mentioned.

Sexton shouldered the scoring load this game as he led the team in that category, showing how he fittingly leads Cleveland in scoring on the year, according to NBA.com, with 19.3 points per game.

Sexton most of the night was able to consistently blow by defenders and get in the paint/get to the rim for some easy baskets or he would draw fouls on Wizards defenders, and he went seven-of-seven from the free throw line.

This dunk with his off left hand was nasty, too.

Also, when Wizards defenders would try to go under screens, Sexton was able to make them pay hitting both of his three-point attempts, and it appears he’s getting his three-point shot back. Sexton also made a few nice reads in this game and ended up with four assists, ESPN.

It was good to see Sexton have a big bounce back game, as he was the Cavs’ primary offense most of the night (Kevin Love had 21 points, too, but it didn’t seem to have the same type of presence), and after an off game Monday against the Knicks, Sexton was able to continue his January tear.

In this month, he’s averaging 22.9 points per game on 47.1% from the field,  including 48.2% from three-point range, as noted by NBA.com.
