Tyrese Haliburton, guard, Iowa State Cyclones

A name that NBA fans should get familiar with is that of Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton has been on the rise in draft circles and could work his way into a top 10 pick this coming summer.

Here’s the thing, Haliburton is unlikely to be a Cavalier based upon where he is being projected, which is the back end of the lottery. The only way Cleveland would select him is if they improved and found themselves picking in the 8-10 range and they slightly reached.

The fact of the matter is, Haliburton is far and away the best draft prospect in the Big 12 this season and he would be an excellent addition to the Cavaliers and would complete their guard rotation along with Garland, Sexton, and Porter Jr.

Haliburton has enjoyed an excellent start to his sophomore season and his numbers have improved astronomically from last season.

As a freshman, Haliburton averaged 6.8 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 33 minutes per game while shooting 51.5% from the field and 43.4% from three per Sports-Reference.

This season, he is averaging 17.3 points, 7.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds in 35.6 minutes per game while shooting 54.1% from the field and 42.4% from three on a whopping 6 attempts per night. He is the clear front runner at this point for Big 12 Player of the Year.

He does everything well and has excellent size at 6’5” with an excellent wingspan. He would immediately jump into the starting lineup with the Cavaliers at shooting guard next season if they found a way to grab him in the NBA Draft.

It’s exciting to see some solid play from the young guys for the Cavaliers, but the expectations for the rest of the season should be tempered. This is a team that is still likely to pick in the top five of the 2020 NBA Draft come June and due to the fact that they have so many young players with high potential, that’s just fine.
