#1 – LeBron James

The most obvious choice for the number one spot is none other than LeBron James, the greatest player in franchise history.

Cavaliers’ fans were heartbroken following James’ departure to the Miami Heat. The boo-birds were out in full force when James returned to Cleveland for his first game as a member of the Miami Heat.

James would go on to win two NBA titles in four years with the Heat before his contract expired. Towards the end of his final year in Miami, there were whispers that he was contemplating a return to Cleveland.

When he finally announced his return, the city of Cleveland went bananas. The Cavaliers then traded for Love and the next four years, as they say, were history.

The Cavaliers were seriously unlucky to not win more than one title in James’ second stint in Cleveland. They had the unfortunate luck of running into one of the greatest dynasties of all time, who they took to six games in the 2015 Finals with both Love and Irving sidelined.

In 2016, they fell down three games to one and came back to win it all. The Warriors then added to their buzzsaw when they signed Kevin Durant and the Cavaliers, despite two more matchups with the Warriors, weren’t able to overcome all of that firepower.

James is the biggest reason why the Cavaliers have an NBA title and he has been on every Cavalier team that has ever appeared in a Finals game.

The stats are absurd with James, although they are not the reason he is #1. His impact on the culture and turning the Cavs into a winner are what elevates him the top spot.

The Cavaliers had their most successful decade in franchise history, and the starting lineup from the 2016 title team deserves a lot of the credit for that. Here’s to hoping the 2020s can eventually be as successful.
