#2: McKinnie would fit the culture the Cavs are trying to build

McKinnie is a player that earned a rotational spot on one of the league’s best teams in the NBA last season in Golden State, and seemed to fit in well while playing alongside the likes of superstars in Kevin Durant (who is now on the Brooklyn Nets via reported sign-and-trade), Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

McKinnie fit well in most instances because he was a productive cutter, knocked in the occasional corner triple, and didn’t try to play outside himself.

The now 27-year-old had to grind to be a regular in Golden State’s rotation last season, and with that being the case, I’m sure he has an outstanding work ethic, because even playing in meaningful minutes for the Warriors is no small feat, especially on the wing.

McKinnie, though as Murdock touched on, did have some defensive struggles at times last year and in the postseason more so, he was plenty fine the majority of the year when matched up against 2’s and 3’s, got through to contest shooters pretty well, and seemed to generally be in the right position to help.

Along with that, with I’d imagine an exemplary work ethic considering he played regular minutes with Golden State last year and earned his way to a roster spot, with the way new Cleveland head coach John Beilein and the Cavs organization is valuing players having a tremendous work ethic (such as is the case with second-year guard Collin Sexton) and being made of the “right stuff” if you will this year and coming years, I’d think McKinnie would be a terrific fit from a culture standpoint coming from a Golden State team that values team-first basketball and an inclusive culture as much as anybody, really.

Now to the most important reason why a potential McKinnie signing by the Cleveland Cavaliers would be a smart move.
