The Cleveland Cavaliers have plenty of lineup options and versatility entering the 2019-20 season. Which lineup should they roll out to close games out?
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the beginning stages of their rebuild and have three rookies they selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft this past summer.
While we were able to get glimpses of Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr. in the preseason, the Cavs other first-round selection, Dylan Windler is nursing a stress reaction and won’t be available until around the beginning of November.
It’s hard to get a gauge from preseason action but it looks like Garland and Porter Jr. can potentially be high-level starters in the NBA, which would be checking off step one of their rebuild.
Porter Jr. however, was a little inconsistent, which makes sense because he has some maturing to do as a player.
Garland, on the other hand, was pretty steady throughout the preseason and showed some glimpses that he has the potential to be an All-Star down the road.
While the Cavs’ rebuild is underway and it looks like they are on the correct path with Garland and Porter Jr., they still have a ways to go and they aren’t expected to be all that competitive this season.
The Cavaliers have a few solid veterans who will likely get the nod to close games out so it’s unlikely Porter Jr. would be on the floor to end games, at least early in the season. You could see him get spot minutes at the end of games in situations where other players are in foul trouble, or when Porter Jr. is having a big night. He has the ability to get hot and put up points in bunches.
With the options they have in the backcourt, who should the Cavaliers close games out with?
