Matthew Dellavedova

Last but definitely not least, veteran guard Matthew Dellavedova is the third player on the Cleveland Cavaliers to me that first comes to mind as having the makings of what Beilein wants in his players.

Dellavedova, as KJG contributors have harped on for quite some time, is a fan favorite because of the way he constantly brings energy and 150% effort on seemingly every possession on both ends of the floor in his minutes off the bench, and that to me, would be what Beilein wants in his players, and even more so, role players.

Throughout games, you constantly see Delly diving on the floor to maintain or create other possessions, and he’s a fierce competitor that is always going to fight to stay attached in pick-and-roll coverage, gets through off-ball screens very well to maintain matchup integrity, and perhaps the most Beilein-esque attribute about Dellavedova is the way he moves the ball and sees the floor.

Dellavedova, had he been more healthy last season, realistically would’ve led qualified Cavaliers in assists, as he had 4.2 helpers per game in 2018-19, per NBA.com, and with the way he sees and often rewards cutters and throws great lobs to bigs, such as Nance and Tristan Thompson, I’d imagine that plays right into what Beilein wants from playmakers in his offense.

Now, Dellavedova’s lobs aren’t always easy to handle, and he’ll have some misses throughout games or occasionally be off-the-mark on drive-and-kicks, and that to me puts him not right away in the mold just yet of a ‘Beilein player.'”

Delly is as a player that you often see diving on the floor, making instinctive defensive rotations, and just giving his all, though, and again, I’d imagine that he’ll have a big fan in Beilein in the near future.

Furthermore, I really hope the Cavs don’t trade the expiring Dellavedova, considering he plays the game the right way and for the way he seems to be a perfect veteran for younger players to look up to and give advice to.
