Cleveland Cavaliers: Possible trade packages for Tristan Thompson
Trade partner #2 – Portland Trail Blazers
We have outlined a way for the Cavaliers to grab Trail Blazer’s rookie small forward Nassir Little in a previous trade piece.
The fact of the matter is, Little is a perfect roster fit for the Cavaliers as it stands today. The Cavs are thin at the small forward position behind Cedi Osman and Little could come in and receive backup minutes right out of the gate.
He could also slide up to the power forward position and earn backup minutes there when the Cavs decide to go small.
Little is an outstanding prospect who really turned it on in the second half of his freshman season at the University of North Carolina. He has all the tools to be a really good wing defender and could develop into a very good scorer.
Hassan Whiteside would be included in this deal to make salaries match. His fit is a little questionable with Portland because he will likely have to come off of the bench when Jusuf Nurkic returns from injury. Whiteside isn’t exactly a player who is willing to accept a lesser role.
Thompson, on the other hand, is exactly what Portland would need coming off of their bench. It would allow them to play Zach Collins at the four alongside Thompson which would allow him to stretch the defense and open the paint up for Thompson to crash the offensive boards.
Thompson is also great at running the floor and would thrive next to Portlands great guard duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum when they are pushing the pace.
Portland could also use a backup point guard to spell Lillard for 12-14 minutes a night, Dellavedova can do just that, and he has excellent chemistry with Thompson.
