Way-too-early 2020 Cleveland Cavaliers NBA draft targets
#1 pick – James Wiseman, Memphis, C
Landing James Wiseman from the University of Memphis with the first pick would be the absolute ideal situation for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wiseman was the number one overall ranked player coming out of the 2019 high school class according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings.
With the Cavaliers likely moving on from veteran big man Tristan Thompson following this season, Wiseman would be an ideal fill-in. If the Cavaliers get development from their young players like Sexton, Garland, and Cedi Osman, adding Wiseman to those three and Kevin Love (if he remains with the team) would make for an exciting starting five moving forward.
Wiseman is a little thin for a center as he weighed in at just 210 pounds at the McDonalds All-American game. However, he is a legit seven-footer who has very good length with a standing reach of 9’3.5” according to 247 Sports.
He has the ability to stretch the defense as he can step out and hit the three-point shot and he will be the best rim-to-rim floor running big in the 2020 draft. He should be able to contribute 4-8 points every night just by running the floor.
Wiseman is also a very good shot blocker, which is something the Cavaliers haven’t had in quite some time. Thompson has been their best shot blocker the past couple of years and he’s just average for a center.
Landing Wiseman would be a grand slam and would allow the Cavs to start looking forward to the 2021 draft to see how the can fill out their young roster with high ceiling players.
