#3 pick – R.J. Hampton, New Zealand, PG/SG

R.J. Hampton gets the nod with the number three pick over Cole Anthony if the Cavaliers land there in the draft lottery because he has more of an ability to play shooting guard.

Hampton was another highly touted prospect in the 2019 high-school class according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. However, he chose to play professionally in New Zealand instead of attending an American university.

If Collin Sexton and Darius Garland were in the 2020 NBA Draft, R.J. Hampton would be selected ahead of them. Even though he doesn’t fit with the Cavs makeup currently, they need talent.

Again, one of Sexton or Garland would be on the move in this situation and the Cavs could receive a mid to late first-round pick in return for one of them.

Hampton is a fantastic scoring guard and he thinks score first which is why he would be a great fit as the starting shooting guard next to either Sexton or Garland.

He also has pretty solid size at 6’5” and length with a 6’7” wingspan. Hampton will need to improve his jump shot a little from three-point range, but it is serviceable. If he can improve it enough to get upwards of 40% from deep, he will be a 20-25 point per game scorer in the NBA.
