Cavs: KJG roundtable looking at FIBA WC and potential Wall of Honor candidates
By Dan Gilinsky
#5: Who will likely be the team’s most important bench player in 2019-20?
Golonka:
Nance Jr. is our most important bench player.
His unique abilities to pass as a big man, finish high above the rim off pick-and-rolls, and hold his own on defense make him an extremely valuable asset behind Love.
Friedman:
The most important bench player is Jordan Clarkson, who played that role really well this past season. A dark horse could be Kevin Porter Jr., who figures to come off the pine.
Should Clarkson be moved, though, maybe KPJ could blossom into a solid bench scorer.
DiPaola:
I think the answer is obvious, it is Jordan Clarkson. He is the player that gets that bench unit going with his dynamic scoring ability.
But beyond Clarkson, I think players like Ante Zizic and even the rookie Porter will be players I am watching this season to see what they can contribute off the bench. Their contributions will be key for the Wine and Gold if they are to improve their win total at all in 2019.
Casey:
It’s Clarkson. He’s the guy that is instant offense off the bench and it’s important he plays well again to begin the season, as he’s a trade candidate near the deadline for the Cavs.
Marling:
This may surprise some, but the Cleveland Cavaliers’ most important bench player is Matthew Dellavedova. The Cavs are nowhere near in position to compete, so Delly’s leadership and mentoring of Garland, Sexton, and even Kevin Porter Jr. will be crucial for the growth of the franchise.
That’s it for this latest KJG roundtable.
So, what are your responses to this set of questions, Cavs fans?
