#3: Coby White and Zach LaVine

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Central Division foe, the Chicago Bulls, are a team that many are predicting a breakout year for. They are loaded with top-flight young talent, and they appeared to have finished their backcourt rebuild in June’s NBA draft.

With the seventh pick in the NBA draft, the Bulls selected the University of North Carolina point guard Coby White.

White is an ultra-athletic lead guard who plays with incredible pace. During his lone season with the Tar Heels, White put up great numbers.

With a game that is very reminiscent of Gilbert Arenas, White put up 16.1 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per Sports Reference. His game also fits in well with his backcourt mate, Zach LaVine.

LaVine is a high flying shooting guard who can get a bucket whenever he wants. A LaVine and White combo seems to be a match made in heaven.

LaVine thrives in an uptempo style, as does White. Letting LaVine fly up and down the floor with White pushing the pace is going to make for some jaw-dropping moments in Chicago next season.

While LaVine had the best statistical season of his career last year (23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists), he struggled defensively with a defensive rating of 115 (all stats per basketball-reference).

White, however, was very good on the defensive side of the ball as a freshman last season. Per sports-reference, he had a defensive rating of 98.9. If LaVine can up his defensive production and White can carry his defense over to the NBA, it’ll be very tough for Garland and Sexton to catch this pairing.
