The Cleveland Cavaliers have an exciting young duo in their backcourt with rookie Darius Garland and second-year man Collin Sexton. So, who are the Cavs’ young backcourt chasing in the under-25 backcourt rankings?

Although it appears the Cleveland Cavaliers are headed towards another rough season, the young backcourt duo of Darius Garland and Collin Sexton is something fans can pin their hopes on.

The Cavs used top-10 picks in each of the last two years on Sexton (eighth in 2018) and Garland (fifth in 2019). There are some fit concerns as both are technically point guards, but neither are considered distributors.

However, the talent that both have is enough for the Cavaliers’ fanbase to be excited for the future of the young duo.

With a Sexton and Garland backcourt, the Cavs will be able to push the tempo at a lightning-quick pace. With the bevy of young shooters the Cavaliers are starting to add, like Kevin Porter Jr. and Dylan Windler, this will allow the Cavs to get a lot of open transition looks as the two guards put pressure on opposing defenses.

There are a couple of issues, at least on paper, with the young duo. First of all, which of Garland and Sexton can learn to play off of the ball the most effectively? Both players are used to dominating the ball.

Secondly, how do they defend opposing shooting guards? While both players are fine from a size standpoint when it comes to the point guard position, neither have the requisite size to defend opposing shooting guards effectively for an extended period of time.

If one of them can learn how to defend bigger wings, as the Portland Trail Blazers CJ McCollum has, they can be a very effective duo.

Who are they trying to catch up to in the NBA under-25 backcourt rankings?
