Cavs: Dan Gilbert reportedly back home after rehab center stay following stroke

After a long stay in a rehabilitation center following a stroke a few months ago, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is reportedly back home in Detroit, which is good to hear.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had to have been shocked when team owner Dan Gilbert was reportedly hospitalized due to stroke-like symptoms back in late May, and he did reportedly suffer a stroke then when hospitalized at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

That was really tough to hear at the time as a fan of the Cavaliers, and I’m sure that was so difficult for Gilbert himself, his family, and so many others, including those involved with Gilbert’s many real estate and business ventures, along with the Cavaliers’ organization.

It was good to hear, though, that Gilbert is reportedly back home in the Detroit area now after being in a rehabilitation center in Chicago for eight weeks in relation to recovery from the stroke he suffered, according to Crains Detroit’s Chad Livengood (and h/t WKYC’s Ben Axelrod).

Gilbert, as we’ve often hit on here at KJG, really epitomizes what it means to be hard-working, and he has many successful real estate and business ventures in the Detroit and Cleveland area, and of course, founded Quicken Loans, which is the largest mortgage lender in the country.

In regards to Gilbert’s return home from the rehabilitation center, which was reportedly on Friday, and which Livengood said is believed to have been the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (subscription required), here’s what Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner had to say on the matter (again, per Livengood).

"“On Friday, Dan Gilbert returned to Detroit to continue his rehabilitation locally,” Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner said Tuesday in a statement. “We are extremely thankful for all of the skilled medical professionals who have played a significant role in Dan’s recovery and are glad to have him back home.”"

Livengood then hit on how those affiliated with Gilbert’s companies assured everything was running just like normal, and Livengood also highlighted how Gilbert was so thankful for the encouragement extended to him by so many employees of his companies/affiliated companies and reportedly thanked them a while back.

This again, is encouraging news to hear as a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and along with that, Gilbert will again continue to progress with his rehabilitation near home.

While operations haven’t always been completely smooth-sailing with Gilbert as the team’s owner, he’s always been ever willing to spend to help the team compete for a championship, and has reportedly been more than willing to help general manager Koby Altman and the Cavs progress in the team’s current rebuilding efforts as well.

All fans of the Cavaliers, along with so many others, including Cleveland head coach John Beilein and his coaching staff, the players on the Cavs, and all in the organization, are all pulling for Gilbert to have a fully successful recovery.

I truly hope he and his family are continuing to get through this in their own way.

One’s health always comes first, and hopefully, Gilbert and his family can get right in due time.

It’d be great to see Gilbert be able to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers open their season in late October, or at least come to their home opener against the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 26, but that shouldn’t be a priority for him and his family at this point.
