Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt has announced via the Olympiacos Basketball Club’s team website that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Some unfortunate and somber news was passed down this morning by former Cleveland Cavaliers and current Olympiacos Basketball Club head coach David Blatt.

Blatt announced on the Olympiacos BC’s team website that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Here is the definition of multiple sclerosis, courtesy of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

"“Multiple sclerosis (MS) involves an immune-mediated process in which an abnormal response of the body’s immune system is directed against the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.”"

Some of the more common symptoms of MS include fatigue, difficulty walking, weakness, dizziness and vertigo, and many others.

Blatt has said he will continue to coach and continue to “lead, teach, and inspire people.”

He added that “not being as agile or active doesn’t affect my ability to do these things.”

More from King James Gospel

David Blatt was hired as the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach prior to the 2014-15 NBA season, and prior to LeBron James announcing his return to Cleveland.

In his first season with the Cavaliers, Blatt helped to lead the franchise to it’s second-ever NBA Finals where the Cavaliers were defeated in six games by the Golden State Warriors.

The 2015-16 season saw the Cavaliers overcome some turmoil throughout the first half of the season.

Even with the obvious bumping of heads between James and Blatt, the Cavaliers held the best record in the Eastern Conference at the halfway point at 30-11.

Despite the fabulous record, the constant head bumping with the team’s best player cost Blatt his job.

Cleveland’s general manager at the time, David Griffin, announced the removal of David Blatt on January 24th and promptly announced Tyronn Lue as his replacement.

The Cavaliers would, of course, go on to win their first-ever NBA championship later that season as they downed the defending NBA champion Warriors.

Although Blatt wasn’t successful long term in the NBA, he is a coaching legend in Europe. Prior to being named the Cavaliers head coach, Blatt led Maccabi Tel Aviv to the Euroleague championship and was named Euroleague Coach of the Year.

Blatt has also won the Israeli Cup six times and the Israeli Super League five times. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment as a coach was leading the Russian National Team to their only Olympic medal, a bronze in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Despite Blatt being let go, Cavaliers fans still hold him in pretty high regard as he always carried himself with class, and it was obvious he has a great basketball mind.
