It’s always cool when professional sports teams involve their bases in giveaways involved with their teams and players, and the Cleveland Cavaliers allowing fans to decide which player will be the “Coliseum Era” bobblehead is really cool to see.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had fun teams in the Richfield Coliseum, and the team had some outstanding balance in the mid-to-late 1980’s/early 1990’s.

The stories are always awesome to hear from those days.

Players such as Larry Nance, Mark Price, Brad Dougherty, Craig Ehlo, John “Hot Rod” Williams, Phil Hubbard, Ron Harper and World B. Free (who was previously Lloyd Free before a name change, by the way), are ones that come to mind with the Coliseum days, along with Bingo Smith and Austin Carr, of course.

Many Cavs fans seem to believe that had it not been for Michael Jordan, Cleveland would’ve had a good chance to win a championship in the late 80’s/early 90’s, and they seem to bring up the depth of the roster, and how the team played the right way.

Anyhow, the Cleveland Cavaliers are celebrating their 50th season in 2019-20, so that means the team will be commerating throughout next season through giveaways and/or other fan engagement.

When it comes to the seasons from 1984-1993, the Cavs are deeming that the “Coliseum Era,” (h/t News 5 Cleveland’s Courtney Shaw), and it’s great to see that the bobblehead for that era is going to be decided by fan voting.

Players that fans can vote for are Daugherty, Ehlo, Free, Geoff Huston, John Bagley, Hot Rod, Nance, Lenny Wilkens (Cleveland’s head coach from 1986-1993) Price, Mike Sanders, Hubbard and Harper. You can cast your vote for one of those names here, by the way.

This is really cool to see the Cleveland Cavaliers engaging with their fan base.

It’s always been a loyal one, and this bobblehead decision belonging to the fans, especially considering next season, the Cavs probably won’t be winning a ton of games with them being involved in a full-rebuild which will be focused on the development of young pieces such as Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Cedi Osman, Kevin Porter Jr. and Dylan Windler (among others), is at least showing a nice touch of appreciation.

So, again, with the way the Cavs have seemingly always emphasized and our proud of the teams they had in that 1984-93 time span (which had some sweet jerseys), the team allowing the fan base to decide that era bobblehead is great to see.

Personally, with the high-arching (and often off-the-dribble) shooting and creative finishing of Free, I’d vote for him; in four seasons with the Cavs, he had averages of 23.0 points per game on 45.4% shooting, to go with 3.9 assists in 33.1 minutes per game (per Basketball Reference).

Now will the Cleveland Cavaliers win many more games than the 19 (per NBA.com) they won in 2018-19?

I would imagine their over-under of 24 wins, when looking at Bovada’s current over-under, is reasonable. Hopefully Kevin Love is healthier for a good portion of the season, too.
