Young Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton already seems to be as pumped for the 2019-20 season as anybody possibly could, and that’s so on-brand.
By this point, fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers probably are well aware that Collin Sexton has a work ethic that is unmatched, and we’ve emphasized that time and time again here at KJG.
Although the Cavaliers haven’t had good results in NBA Summer League play (with a combined record of just 1-6 in the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas Summer Leagues) thanks in large part to precautionary measures due to prior reported injuries to players such as Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr. keeping those players out, Sexton and many on-roster Cavaliers are still in Vegas reportedly supporting the Cavs’ Summer League team.
As we previously highlighted, that’s a plus to know at least they are building relationships.
Along with that, Sexton showcased his enthusiasm in how he’s more than pumped for the 2019-20 season to start in a recent video with Cavaliers play-by-play announcer Fred McLeod of Fox Sports Ohio/the Cavs (courtesy of Cavs.com/Cavs’ Official Twitter).
The “Young Bull” is clearly a player that is never going to get outworked, as we’ve often detailed.
Additionally, with the way he reportedly worked tirelessly to improve his jumper, especially from three-point range as the 2018-19 season wore on (he averaged 16.7 points per game last year and shot an impressive 40.2% from three-point range, per NBA.com), it leads me to believe that Sexton can grow into a leader by example for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the near future.

It’s encouraging that Sexton and Garland seem to have a budding relationship as well, as those two are arguably the two most important pieces in the Cavaliers’ full-rebuild in the coming years.
They need to coexist on the court (there will be lumps, as KJG contributors have continually mentioned, but the offensive potential firepower is certainly there) and grow close off it for the backcourt pairing to be operating at top capacity.
Overall, even hopefully with All-Star big Kevin Love more in the picture thanks to better health in 2019-20 (he only appeared in 22 games in 2018-19, per Basketball Reference, in large part due to reported toe surgery), it’s likely going to be another season filled with losses for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
That being said, it’s good to know that Sexton is always ready to go to work, and him being about as excited as possible for next season to start already in mid-July when many players are enjoying their fair share of warranted R and R gets my stamp of approval again on his character.
I love Sexton, and that Cavs.com video made me love him as a competitor and worker even more.
As far as Garland’s singing, I’m sure we’ll hear more and more about that as the 2019-20 season approaches and his career progresses for the Cavaliers.
I won’t be too critical on that front, as I am absolutely not along the lines of Brennan (Will Ferrell) in “Step Brothers,” in that I am definitely not “the songbird of my generation.”
