The Cleveland Cavaliers do not currently have a second-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but that could change, and here are a few players Cleveland could potentially target in the second round if they purchased one of those selections.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are fully in player development mode now and likely will be in the next few seasons, and that means that they’ll need to acquire talent through general manager Koby Altman and the front office drafting well.

Cleveland appears to have hit well in the draft last year, as young guard Collin Sexton had a good start to his NBA career and hopefully he can keep improving under the teaching of head coach John Beilein and associate head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, among others.

For the 2019 NBA Draft at this point, the Cavaliers have the fifth and 26th overall selections, and we’ve touched on potential players they could target at those selections time and time again (and will continue to do so up until the draft on June 20), but what about the second round?

For now, Cleveland does not own a second-round selection, and that’s not the end of the world, by any means.

With them likely a few years away from contending for an Eastern Conference postseason berth, though, I would imagine that the Cavaliers would be interested in purchasing a second-round selection this year, as that could potentially bring a role piece they could develop with a two-way deal in 2019-20 or maybe bring along gradually in an end-of-bench role.

So what are the chances of Altman and the Cavs doing this sort of thing? It seems fairly high.

According to a report from Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor detailing how Cavaliers majority owner/chairman Dan Gilbert (who will not be attending the draft due to him recovering from his recent stroke) gave the front office to green light to be “aggressive” in their approach to the draft, due to Gilbert’s willingness to spend to help the team’s rebuilding effort, that seemingly includes going out and purchasing a second-round pick as well, if the opportunity presents itself.

Fedor mentioned how Cleveland’s brass previously made Gilbert (who was then on board with it) aware of their “desire to purchase a second-rounder.”

So who are some potential players the Cleveland Cavaliers could be targeting with a second-round pick they’d be purchasing?

Let’s get into it.
