#2: Should the Cavs make “safe” pick/picks, or bet on potential/high ceiling?

Friedman:

With their first pick, they need to go with whoever they like most, regardless of where he may be on the overall big board. With their second first-rounder, there is a little more freedom.

DiPaola:

I’d rather the Cavs go with more of a “safe” pick. Teams often times gamble with their lottery picks and guess what?

We see those teams picking high again the following year. Beilein seems like he can develop talent, but this might be the case where you take best player available and not try to gamble on a player.

Grey:

They should take a risk. Everyone views this as a three-player draft where the drop-off from three to four is significant.

I think the Cavaliers should take someone who has the highest ceiling even if that player has high bust potential. If Cleveland was third, I would say make the safe bet in RJ, but Cam Reddish has hit-or-miss written all over him.

Darius Garland is a mystery, but anyway, they should go for a home run with their position in the draft.

Casey:

I’m of the belief they should bet big on the potential of Reddish. This is widely viewed as a top-heavy draft, that after the top two or three there are major questions, so why not gamble on a guy that could have the second-highest upside in the draft behind Zion Williamson?
