Fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers probably know Channing Frye pretty well at this point, and his first pitch at the Cleveland Indians game on Sunday seemed to be on-brand in that way.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to miss Channing Frye as a teammate and floor-spacer next season.

We’ve touched on that a number of times, but on Sunday, there was another reminder of it.

More from King James Gospel

While the veteran’s numbers last year weren’t ones that flew off the screen (3.6 points per game on 50.4% effective field goal shooting in 36 appearances in 2018-19, per Basketball Reference), he clearly was beloved by the players in the locker room and the organization, and always seemed to provide levity, based on what many have said about him.

That sort of thing would apply to former Cav Richard Jefferson and Kevin Love, especially, and you could constantly see it in postgame interviews with Frye.

On Sunday, Frye threw out the first pitch at the Cleveland Indians game, which came on Cinco de Mayo, and that ordeal went just how I thought would’ve; the end result was a smile and I’m sure tons of laughter.

This will be discussed extensively on the next episode of ‘Road Trippin,’ I would assume.

Yeah that was very on-brand by Frye, who is not one to be too vanilla in anything. If Frye would’ve just tossed a clean throw out there, it wouldn’t have been memorable.

He touched on that after the throw, again, courtesy of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it turned out, he got his wishes.

Yes, Channing, as one might expect, you got on, and of all Cavs/former Cavs to throw out the first pitch in that sort of laughable way, it’s anything but surprising that it was Frye.

Being on “Shaqtin’ a Fool” is really quite the honor (kidding), but leave it to Channing to have the glass half full outlook on it.

Additionally, because of Frye’s off throw, Larry Nance Jr. (and I’m sure plenty of Frye’s former teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers and other places) thought it was comedic gold, courtesy of Nance’s Twitter account (and h/t Cavaliers Nation’s Brad Sullivan).

Frye will always be appreciated by fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers, because he is just such a relatable guy, was a 39.2% three-point shooter on the Cavs and a career 38.8% three-point shooter (per Basketball Reference) and had plenty of big shots in the postseason, and was clearly a selfless teammate overall.

We hope Frye is enjoying his retirement, and maybe he’ll get some more catch in after that pitch? Maybe not, and maybe it was just an on-brand bad throw, but either way, it was classic Channing.
