Collin Sexton has come a long, long way in the second half of this season, and what he did for Channing Frye Tuesday morning gave a glimpse as to how far Sexton has come in his first year in the NBA, even if it was just a rookie chore.

Collin Sexton has had plenty of rookie moments throughout his first NBA season, and that resulted in the young point guard receiving his share of criticism.

We’ve hit on that many, many times throughout the 2018-19 season, and there are still concerns about Sexton’s passing efficiency numbers and his ceiling as a defender (due to lack of size and potential lack of defensive feel thus far), but what is clearly never going to be a concern is Sexton’s work ethic, as the Plain Dealer’s Terry Pluto recently highlighted in a piece published Tuesday morning.

That’s also something we’ve emphasized throughout this year, and it’s seemingly the reason the “Young Bull” has taken off post-All-Star break, where he’s averaged 20.9 points on 58.8% true shooting (including a scorching 42.7% from three-point range on 5.7 attempts per game), to go with 2.9 assists per game in that stretch.

Earlier in the year, Sexton was struggling, and that led to “a few media stories about unnamed veterans” (as Pluto said) essentially calling out the first-year point guard for his rookie mistakes. In the month following that sort of narrative, there was another rookie mistake.

The then-19-year-old was punished for not bringing enough donuts to satisfy the needs of his Cleveland Cavaliers’ teammates before a game in mid-December by his car being filled with popcorn by Tristan Thompson, (h/t WKYC’s Ben Axelrod).

Now, the young guard’s game has really taken off in the right direction after months of progress, and obviously, he’s learned his lesson when it comes to completing his rookie duties in a satisfactory manner.

On Tuesday morning, the rook delivered a bunch of bagels to Channing Frye‘s house, given that Tuesday night marks the last game of Frye’s 13-year-career (courtesy of the Cavs’ Official Twitter).

Oh how far the Cleveland Cavaliers’ youngster has come.

This sort of gesture (whether it was a rookie chore or not) from Sexton is probably not headline news to most, and it’s not, but it is indicative of his growth this season in that he is showing he’s learning from his mistakes.

I am and will continue to be #Bullish on the young guard, because of how he’s shown he can work through his mistakes and is a willing and able learner.

Did he get enough cream cheese and get varying kinds of bagels and/or spread, though? I can’t confirm, but my educated guess is a yes.
