Cleveland Cavaliers: Prioritizing the SG/SF situation
4. David Nwaba
David Nwaba was picked up in the offseason on a one-year deal by the Cavaliers. He was welcomed onto the club as a defensive-minded guard that could be moved out to the three-spot. But as nice as Nwaba has looked at times, his lack of availability has deflated any type of push for more playing time.
Nwaba has missed 31 games with Cleveland this season (per Basketball Reference), nursing a knee injury for most of the year. He suffered the injury at the end of December and missed eighteen contests in a row. It derailed the Cavaliers’ depth and the momentum Nwaba was earning as he saw a few consecutive starts.
While Nwaba isn’t a cornerstone piece, it’s worth figuring out whether or not he fits with the current scheme of the Cavaliers going forward. He’s one of the better two-way guys on the floor when he’s healthy and injects energy into the starting five.
On the season, Nwaba has posted 6.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in just 26 games, seeing 18.0 minutes per game, per NBA.com.
