The Cleveland Cavaliers have knocked over their first domino of the NBA Trade Deadline, as they’ve reportedly traded guard Rodney Hood to the Portland Trail Blazers.

While the Super Bowl takes center stage on the first Sunday of February, the Cleveland Cavaliers have made one of the first significant moves of the NBA Trade Deadline. The Wine and Gold have traded Rodney Hood to the Portland Trail Blazers for Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin, and two second-rounders.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the deal.

Hood has spent a year-and-a-half with the Cavaliers after coming over last February from a trade with the Utah Jazz. He’s averaged 12.2 points on 42.7 percent in 45 games this season, all of them starts.

Despite having a nice scoring run during the beginning of the season, he has never come into his own as a scoring option. His lack of aggression, along with a stretch of inconsistency, has been the main reason that Cleveland has looked to move him.

After agreeing to a qualifying offer this past offseason, Hood’s second chance has come to an end in Northeast Ohio, as he reportedly agreed to the deal (he had veto power given that he was playing on that said one-year qualifying offer, as Wojnarowski detailed).

Stauskas, on the other hand, is the main return player-wise. has played in 44 games off the bench for the Trail Blazers this season. He’s averaging 6.1 points on 41.9 percent shooting from the floor. Though he’s known for his shooting ability, it isn’t anything to be impressed with. He’s shooting just 34.4 percent from behind the arc, per NBA.com.

Also acquired in the deal are third-year guard Wade Baldwin and two future second-round picks in 2021 and 2023, as Wojnarowski noted.
