Daniel Gibson was a decent rotational player for the Cleveland Cavaliers for several years, and with him reportedly signing a deal to play in the BIG3, it brings on a nostalgic feeling.

Cleveland Cavaliers fans seemed to really love Daniel Gibson, who was a point guard that could hit it well from three-point land in his seven seasons in The Land. Today, it was reported that the former Cleveland fan favorite signed a deal with the BIG3 (h/t Cavaliers Nation’s Jonathan Sherman). Gibson should be a quality addition for the BIG3, with players being able to hit a four-point shot.

Gibson was mainly a bench contributor for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his main role was to run the offense to some degree, but most importantly, be a very good threat from three-point range. For his career, he shot 40.7 percent from three on 3.6 attempts per game, per Basketball Reference.

That should be a welcome addition for a BIG3 squad, as he can be a formidable floor-spacer and catch-and-shoot specialist for potential teammates.

In his time with the Cavs, Gibson provided some of that for LeBron James, and was never shy about pulling the trigger when given the opportunity when defenses did not rotate to him quick enough.

In today’s NBA, where three-point shooting is so much more crucial to winning games and championships, really, Gibson’s skill set would probably be worth much, much more for a teams’ rotation.

Nonetheless, with him back in the basketball spotlight again, it really brings on quite the nostalgic feeling; when Gibson would splash home threes in Quicken Loans Arena, the place would erupt.

I’m pretty sure any casual fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers remembers Gibson’s career night that vaulted us to the 2007 NBA Finals. In that Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons, he had 31 points, including five-of-five from deep, and was 12-of-15 from the free throw line (per Basketball Reference).

The BIG3 was all over that with these highlights, and this still puts a massive smile on my face every time I watch it.

In his seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Gibson had averages of 7.8 points on 51.2 percent effective field goal shooting, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 23.5 minutes per game, Basketball Reference.

Next. The worst option for the Cavs is to be complacent at the trade deadline. dark

We wish him the best of luck in his upcoming season with the BIG3. As a side note, the BIG3 recently announced that Shannon Brown and Kendrick Perkins, two former Cavaliers, signed to play in the league as well this season.
