The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching, and just like in seasons past, it looks as if the Cleveland Cavaliers will be busy, especially when it comes to Rodney Hood.

However, this season the Cleveland Cavaliers are not looking for that missing piece or two to get them over the hump. Instead, they are going to listen to dump bad contracts and acquire future assets that could help them speed up the rebuilding process.

One player who has been linked to quite a few teams already this season is guard Rodney Hood. According to The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania (subscription required) the New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks, and Oklahoma City Thunder are three teams who could be in the mix for Hood as all three teams are in the market for a wing player.

Additionally, Sam Amico of Amico Hoops reported that the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto Raptors, and even the Golden State Warriors could be in on a Hood trade.

Hood’s deal of $3.4 million is quite the cap-friendly contract, and teams struggling with their own salary cap issues would not have to sweat too much if they wanted to acquire Hood.

The only snag with any potential trade is that Hood can veto any trade due to the fact he is playing on a qualifying offer this season.

In all reality though, that does not seem like much of a hurdle. If Hood wants to play for a contender (what player doesn’t?), he will likely choose not to veto a trade to whatever contender makes a deal for Hood.

The Cavaliers are in search of future draft picks as well as bad multi-year contracts belonging to players who could be traded later. They’d also like younger players with promise.

Former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin mentions to that point that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert trusts in current general manager Koby Altman and his assembled front office, as noted by Cleveland.com’s Terry Pluto.

"“I believe Dan trusts Koby Altman in the same way he trusted Chris Grant. He has belief in this front office.”"

So here are three potential deals the Cavaliers could make to not only make Hood happy but also set themselves up for possible success later on down the line.
